Living things are art

My work is a celebration of all things alive, and their unique inner worlds. I spent my childhood learning about the nature with my biologist parents, and have been forever captivated. I naturally gravitated towards pencil and ink work due to the high levels of contrast and crisp lines and high degree of realism I could achieve with those media, and my work evolved to include abstract patterns of lines and dots and which flow with the energy of the diverse life on Earth. I hope that observers will experience some of the same childlike wonder for the natural world that inspires me when they view my pieces.

Meet the Artist

Zoe Caron is a local East Bay artist that specializes in biology-inspired work in pen and pencil, watercolor, and digital media. She focuses on highly detailed, realistic animals set against backdrops of dynamic, abstract pattern that bring the vibrancy of living forms to the paper.

Caron’s artistic practice is steeped in science and the outdoors. Her father is a professor of biology at the University of Southern California, and many of her early works feature drawings of the microscopic world visible through a microscope in a lab. She also draws inspiration from years of exploring the outdoors and capturing and photographing many different kinds of wildlife. Caron attended UC Berkeley for her undergraduate degree, earning a BS and BA in plant biology and integrative biology.
